I can't agree that the dimples mean 'squat' as you put it when clearly they have an indicative purpose. My father would wryly say "if all else fails read the instructions" of course meaning read the instructions first to avoid frustration or worse. It'll be mentioned in the Owners Manual i'm sure. however your solution of using the wheel nut wrench is an okay solution cos the lock nut caps will spin on the nuts and a little wiggle will snap off the cap. I too recommend replacing the lock nuts with the standard 'no dimple' nuts especially for offroad driving where wheel changes are more likely and extra complications not needed.
