Thread: Spare wheel removal?

The spare wheel retaining nuts should have a raised "dot" on them and don't have removable covers on them so all you need to do is to unscrew them.
IF they have a recessed "dot" then they are locking nuts and if you simply put the wheel brace on them the cap will wriggle off usually.

Thanks Mr T, caught out again by the ridiculousness of Landy thinking. As per my usual odds, I picked the lock-nut to undo with the supplied wheel brace. I didn't realise that the spare also had a lock-nut holding it on.
If I had a dollar for every wheel I've changed in my lifetime, I reckon I could buy a set of quality AT LTs. I've never had the drama this thing has given me.

Best mod I have ever done to my D2 is to replace all those bothersome locking nuts with regular nuts
Don't loose or replace the nuts that hold the spare on as a regular wheel nut won't do up enough to hold the wheel on tightly

Remember to put the original wheel nuts back onto the spare (those with a dimple out) as these wheel nuts have a longer thread than those used on the wheels. If you use the standard wheel nuts on your spare you will break the studs on your spare holder before they become tight.

right and don't mix them up and use the spare nuts on the road wheel.

I'm fairly sure the MANUAL tells you how to remove the wheel,,
and why the spare has different profiles--

If Manual was here, he'd've been changing the wheel whilst I kicked back in the shade with an ice cold Gold.

The other thing you can do is get a slitting disc in an angle grinder and shorten the spare wheel studs by about 5mm (trial and error) and you can use standard wheel nuts. Don't remove too much!
