    Top mount intercooler

Hi all, just curious if anyone has looked into a top mount for their Td5? Wether EGT's or heat soak would be an issue . Might do some research. Cheers Brett

Why bother with a top mount heat soak , They already have a better than average set up standard
Why do you want to reinvent the wheel

Maybe a top mount with a bonnet scoop?

Not trying to re invent the wheel, just curious if there would be any benefits. Definitely have a bonnet scoop, and possibly a fan to help on slow low range tracks.

The top mounts generally seem to be a lot smaller than a Td5 intercooler. The serious turbo ricers put them in front of the radiator pack... but only in polished aluminium.

    could it be done yes,
reason why help it stay clean and not get filled with mud and stuff, but if your worried about that why not go water cooled with a separate radiator or go use the engine's coolant
only other benefit it can give is a shorter intake length for quicker boost response but unless you custom fab a intake manifold it will be very minimal

We have a friend in the UK who travelled a lot in the North African Continent and the first thing he did when purchasing a Defender was to swap the position of intercooler / oil coolers and the A/C condenser, so that the intercooler and oil coolers was the first thing the air went through.

Top mount doesn't get anywhere near the airflow of a front mount, and is also in the way if any engine repairs are needed.

Top mount is used so hoses are shorter therefore less lag.

LR have always had front mount as they are the most efficient.
