    Turning circle

    Hi All,

When we bought Daphne II a month or so ago, she came with the optional 255/55R18 wheels. One of the first things I noticed is that the turning circle was lousy compared to the D1. Is it likely/probable that the steering stops are more restrictive with 18" wheels fitted?

I changed to standard 245/70R16 wheels today and, if it's feasible, would like to improve the turning circle. I know I can just crawl underneath and see if there's more wheel clearance but it would be nice to know if there were two lengths of steering stop post.

Reduce the steering stop length for 16 inch tyres is the way to go. Search for the required length etc on the forum.

The turning circle on the D2 is definitely worse than D1. I do note that the handbook no longer says that holding on hard full lock for more than 30 seconds will burst the pump. Perhaps the increased size of the stops is the reasons?
From a consumer point of view it makes total sense it removes a traditional leak on a rover.
If you can be sure no one will over pressurise it then you can run without any stops if they don't rub - my first v8 D2 I did exactly that and it obviously helped with the turning circle.

Yep the turning circle is lousy on the D2 compared to the D1, the whole axle system is different to the D1 which has the swivel ball system. Doing U turns was quite restrictive I found on the D2.
