Rosco, is that coolant temp gauge adapter 38mm?
I measured my standard radiator hose with calipers and the outside diameter was about 42-43mm.
Anybody else know?

You dont need an adaptor cos IMO cutting the top hose is not the best solution, you can drill and tap into the elbow like i did, the sensors are usually 1/8NPT but see how is your's, cut the proper thread and job done:

I forgot to say, use loctite thread sealant on the sensor

Is it a 1/8-27NPT thread?
Yes the sensor is a Standard 1/8NPT.
Try to sort the right tap and die kit, it’s been on the list for a while...

Madman Developments - Coolant Adapter - LR Td5

This is the neatest solution to add a sender to a TD5.

I used Saas one from Supercheap in the top hose, but wish I'd found the Madman one first...

Mounting...I removed the rubber coin tray insert on top of the dash and mounted 4 gauges there by screwing down, as all that was needed to hide them again was to refit the rubber tray.
I took them out of the old auto and am going to fit them to the new manual.
Boost, EGT, Coolant temp, and oil temp (was in the auto trans, not sure which oil I'll measure with this one as it is a bit superfluous on a manual...).
I bought racetech units from Roadrunner Offroad and they were great to deal with and the gauges are super responsive.

Coolant alarm can literally be as simple as a pair of self tapping screws in the coolant header tank and a buzzer wired to a relay so that when current is broken on the trigger wire it flows to the alarm wire...in fact that alarm will tell you before one in the top hose will...I will be going with a pair of machine screws through the side of the header tank, sealed with RTV under the heads and with a nut done up on the outside with loctite on it. Ring terminal on the wires and another nut to hold them on, easily removable to get the header tank out, simple, and cheap. Should be able to put it together for under $20...
Having a flatmate who is an electronic engineer and a former RAAF technician won't hurt in making it cheap and neat either...

Yeah I have the coolant alarm kit with the simple red light and alarm that checks the circuit each time you turn the ignition on prior to start. Bought and installed years ago. I have also added a Madman EMS-2 guage to a MudPod into the centre of the dash on top of the vent. I don't have a pic of my setup but here is a link off the net of the mud pod. I got it from the UK and was an easy install.

I have the Madman EMS-2 gauge setup with only EGT at the moment but it has the capability to monitor a number of temps (8 different from memory) and it can cycle through or stay on one gauge or manually switch through displays. you can set high and low alarms for each. Nice bit of kit. You can get extra probes and add them as you want or can afford. I drive off my EGT gauge no instead of looking at the temp gauage. Makes a big difference when towing a heavy trailer and up and down hills.


Madman Developments - EMS and CLD Units

I have some Carling rocker types light bar and power switches installed beside the MadMan gauage. Looks nice and neat and almost factory.
