Converting from coils back to SLS ?????

My 2000 td5 disco has been converted from air bags to springs. If i was to convert it back is there any brackets I need for refitting the air bags. ie air bags to axle. The symptoms i was given was prior to change over from previous owner. Air bags deflated intermittently over night and the compressor cycling would sometimes flatten the battery. Or should i just go helper air bags for towing. Me thinks possibly leaking bags were the culprit but open for suggestions.

Helper air bags is by far the cheapest option.

G'day Baz, the compressor won't come on while the ignition is off, so I'm not sure how it can flatten the battery.

Do you have the original compressor airbags and the other odds and sods to replace the springs with?

I have had mine run when charging the battery from a wall socket - no ignition on. Perhaps it doesn't run when battery drops below a certain voltage?

No airbags as i did not change them out, all other components as far as i can tell are there. Compressor, airlines cut at spring. I have nano com so hopefully it will check out. A bit stumped how to check compressor without bags though. Would hate to spend money on bags to find the compressor is stuffed. not sure if bottom plate on spring is the same as the airbag or i have to source new one.

You could put the relay back too see if the compressor runs, If the compressor is RS they are expensive to replace.

I have the spring conversion on mine because I kept getting intermittent faults with the SLS system ( air bags were fine) and was sick of coming home on the bump stops so I went with the springs.
I am thinking about adding a set of helper bags to mine.

You can buy a new compressor cylinder and ring set from here, bagpipingandy on Ebay

I purchased the ring only to find when I did this the cylinder was damaged. Used a DIY hone, bit of dowel with a slot and emery cloth and honed the bore, works ok but Andy contacted me after my purchase and mentioned that he was selling replacement cylinder but didn't have them listed yet. Ordered one last week via direct contact with Andy.

Here's the kit (Generic image as the D2 one has different O'ring) was $140 posted

As for testing you'll need to switch via the nanocom the air bags back on (check the relay is still in, sorry not 100% which one?)

Here's how I'd go about it.
    1. Change the settings on the nanocom to air bags (there's an on off sequence to do this) then set the target height with the springs in so you can do the testing.
    2. Test and see if it'll pump? If you've changed the settings correctly it may not pump up when you first start because it'll think you're at the correct height because of the spring set height. Should be able to press via the nanocom the height calibration (can't think if there's a compressor test on the nanocom?) or the off road height button on the dash and get the pump to work.
    3. Put a pressure gauge on each line and test if they hold pressure over night, this should test for leaking from the valve block and lines.

Bags should just go back in after you remove the spring holders from the axle.

I did a conversion back and could recommend 100% wouldn't ever go back to springs!

    Cheers Lemo

Make sure all doors and bonnet are closed when testing, height won't adjust if any are not fully closed.
