    Three Amigos

    Hi all,

I know this has been done to death!! and yes I've read all the post

I'm getting the three amigos sometimes randomly or just after start up and sometimes when hard on the brakes (nanocom log is the shuttle valve)

I've tested all as per this Land Rover Troubleshooting - Test Procedure And Instructions for Shuttle Valve Switches and everything checks out ok.
I've replaced the shuttle valve and cleaned all connections and made sure all are in good order.

I'm getting the correct ohm readings (3.02Kohm) via testing at the modulator ie (If the resistance value observed is outside the 3020 Ohms ±30 Ohms limit)

So should I just do the option B??

I'll be giving the brake fluid a change as well?? (I'm currently ordering new discs and pads and will do a full bleed when changing etc, also at the same time i'll be doing the upper and lower ball joints and axle seals, big weekend when the parts arrive
    )

    Cheer in advance
    Lemo

    Hi Lemo
Had the same readings from the Nanacom. Mine was the earth pin in the ABS card that the shuttle valve plugs into. You can check it with an OHM meter for continuity between that pin and the earth on the external plug. Could make it fault just by tightening the shuttle valve screws.!!!! Two methods of repair : A major dismantle of the ABS and repair the card, or, option B.
Option B has worked a treat for me, and many others.
Followed "Stevo's" tutorial, but did not cut the wires, just spliced and soldered the new wires in.

    Regards
    Harry

Option B is pretty easy. probably only 2 hours work. I didnt remove the brake lines, just lifted it up.

Also the locktite on the hex bolts that hold on the modulator is super strength. It makes you second guess if you are turning them the correct way. Other than that it wa a pretty easy job.

i had similar issues with it. Bump here and there would set it off or hard braking. Then it would be off for a week and come back randomly. Option b solved it for me.

Well I did the SVS swap last weekend and no Hispanic mates so far. If/when they return, it'll definitely be option B for me.

Did option B and have not had a fault come up with the brakes since. Well worth it.

    Wotz Option A then?

    Hi All,

Lemo, sorry if I seem to be hi-jacking your thread, but it seems like you may have finished with it?
I too have been reading all I can find about Option B, including the excellent 'The Good Oil' tutorial and pics.

I've had the occasional visit from the three friendly Mexican fellows but not to the point of being annoying or dangerous ('tho I guess you only have to 'need' ABS once while the lights are on for it to be potentially dangerous?...)

But before I launch into the process, could I ask a couple of (probably asked before) questions please?

    1. What was option A exactly? Is this the ABS module disassembly to try to repair the dodgy PC board? Or something more?

    2. I take it option B will only work if the two switches in the assembly (SVS?) are still working properly in the first place? If that's true, and the amigos appear only infrequently, is it reasonable to think the SVS are generally OK and it's just the intermittent poor connection that's the problem? Or am I better off replacing the SVS module and be done with it (as well as the Option B mod)?

    3. Lastly, I'm planning to do a full brake fluid change soon anyway . (Only had the vehicle a few months.) Is it necessary to do the brake bleeding immediately after the Option B job? Some seem to imply that no fluid is lost, or air introduced, in the process?

    4. Some threads about this issue mention also the SLS system. I don't have SLS. Is everything to do with the ABS unit and Option B the same for SLS and non-SLS models.

Thanks for your patience with my 'Td5 Newbie' questions.
