Yes thats why people fit them, I think all owners fully understand that they are fitting larger tyres to gain ground clearance....What else would anybody expect.....

As for 'Messing' with the management thats nonsense to be fair and the only thing that will be affected is gearing, nothing electrical/ecu based will be affected in anyway....(unless different size tyres across axles)

HDC becomes a bit too quick with the extra circumference.

A downside I'm prepared to put up with for the extra clearance, particularly coming from a Deefer with 255/85's.

Each for it's own but i have the feeling that you dont have engine temp and EGT gauges fitted or if you have you should make a test once just if you want to be wiser and compare ECT and EGT readings on a long uphill drive between std tyres and bigger ones... if you dont have these gauges then IMO you dont know what you are talking about(aka nonsense)... no offence

I have both an EGT Gauge and a temp gauge fitted along with a nanocom running!! Your original point was messing with management and now you try to make points about which way the wind blows!!!...As with every modification they will all affect each other to some point but your rather blunt point of 'messing with management was, and still is NONSENSE - Which in turn leads me back to my point that the only thing that really is affected is the gearing, which is the point you just try to make with your sarky comment about me having no gauges fitted and being mis-informed, your opinion can be either educated or uneducated but assumptions are what make you look silly my friend as you assume too much.....

I just told to mr @trout1105 my oppinion why the TC works well for him then you came and named it nonsense without some serious arguments before i made silly assumptions so i reacted the way i did and if i offended you i apologize. My statement about EGT and ECT gauges was exactly about the management as if the ECT or EGT are higher with bigger wheels it means that the fuelling was affected cos the ECU expects a certain acceleration for a certain throttle request based on all sensor's inputs...it's called addaptive strategy, but i'm not gonna' keep theories to you cos it seems that you know better anyway, the most affected is the ABS system which was calibrated from factory for std dimension tyres, the braking distance is increased and system's response in active braking(ETC, HDC, ABS, EBD) is reduced with a close percentage to the difference between tyre dimensions.... though if you want to be aggressive and use postulates like "nonsense" without any scientific backround just turning my words around that's it

i'm sure you know what's the VSS signal and how it is involved in the engine management, the middle graph is relevant for that, it's seledted from the official Wabco D ABS system's description and all that algorythm is calculated for std dimension tyres

i'm sorry i had the guts to tell my oppinion which i reiterate with the prefix IMO: you gain ONLY ground clearance with bigger tyres but the management is mixed up which can be rather bad than good that was my warning for those who might not know that, not your case off course, so convince me the opposite with decent arguments not by being rude please

As a layman to me sierrafery's explanation makes Perfect sense as the system on a D2 is designed around a certain wheel/tyre size and unless you can re programme the system and beef up the other driveline components to take account of the larger tyres it wont work as effectively or be as robust, That to me is just common sense.
I don't have any issues with fitting oversize wheels/tyres or lift kits But I do have concerns regarding putting extra Stress on the driveline components that are NOT designed or rated for these modifications.
The Landrover diffs and axels are not renowned for their strength so I have kept my D2a pretty much bog standard and I have No problems dragging my boat around the West coast on the sometimes crappy tracks and soft beaches I tend to encounter.
To me getting my tyre pressures and driving technique down "Pat" is more effective getting to where I want to go than simply adding a lift and huge wheels/tyres then applying a heavy right boot.
The maintenance and repairs on my D2 is pretty expensive so I like to try and keep that down to a minimum if I can so I prefer not to flog the guts out of my truck.
