Help Flashing D with strike through in instrument binnacle

Had a fault appear on my instrument binnacle yesterday. 6chimes on start up combined with a flashing D with a stroke through it on the left side of my odometer. Found a partial reference to the flashing D but it was auto related not manual.

Vehicle is a TD5 Disco manual Tried googling and came up with very little more related to automatics.

Bit of history over the past couple of months

Had a 2nd hand replacement binnacle put in a couple of months ago due to speedo no longer working, all winced up and worked fine.

replacement battery at same time as old one had died.

New gearbox box and transfer from Ashcroft fitted.

Had a windscreen leak for a bit after windscreen replacement. Hopefully fixed after 4 attempts by windscreens Obriens.

Noticed a a slow drop in voltage during 3 hour drive today down highway.
Normally sits on 13.8-13.9 on the Highway according to my Madman. Was slowly dropping down to 13.5 on the highway down to 13.1 around town.

6 chimes happens every time I start now.

Car has been getting hard to start occasionally since the flashing D came up.

    no faults on Nanacom.

indicator lights on dash not working since Flashing D started yesterday afternoon. Indicators lights are working outside of car.

pulley noise appears to be louder when running now ( maybe faulty alternator)

Could ld it be instrument binnacle related, BCU fault or voltage related ie dieing alternator/ regulator.

taking to Nightcliffe auto next week when I head back to Darwin. Leigh will hook up the auto logic, hopefully that will tell us more.

Throwing battery on chargers case it is voltage related and will hopefully get me back to Darwin with no issues.

Ideas or has anyone experienced this Before noting this is a manual and not an auto

    Cheers Chris

Weird one. Stab in the dark, but maybe a miscommunication between the CUs? First thing I would try, absent of someone knowing exactly what it is, would be to disconnect the battery for maybe 5 minutes. Like I said, a stab in the dark.

I would recommend having an alternative battery charged up though, 'cos if the alternator is failing they do tend to use the power up quickly. Well, mine did.

Hey mate, i had this exact same prob a few weeks ago when we had that big down pour in melb.
Found ut to be that because my D2 was parked on an angle (drivers side down) i had a small amount of water ingress to the fuse box behind the dash.
Left a little heater running in there for a few hours and hey presto all good again. So maybe start there.

All fixed and back on the road thanks to Leigh and his team at Nightcliffe Service Centre.

No ECB fault thank goodness, it ended up been the instrument binnacle. Replaced with a D2a one. All sinced up and working again.

Pulley noise was a self destructing bearing in the fan pulley. I was lucky to get back to Darwin on it.
had a slowly failing alternator and that was replaced as well with a genuine Denso.

few other pulley bearings replaced as preventative maintenance.

one last thing was a surprise and that was the fan had started to fail as well. Not sure if it was related to the bearing or from a previous stance when the harmonic balancer failed. Any way I had lost a fan blade and two others were cracked. Very lucky the blade that parted company it didn't go through the radiator.

The D2a instrument binnacle does look different and will take a while to get used to. Fingers crossed I will now get a good run and no other issues pop up for quite a while.

    Cheers Chris
