Most fridges are run on r134a never worked on one running on lpg
LPG is a great gas for refrigeration due to it only needing little amount but the working pressures are the issues
A lot of fridges are now going r600 with requires an additional licence and has low working pressure
Also car air is a different trade to refrigeration/ac in domestic commercial etc

Any electrical appliance can cause a house fire.

    Google Samsung washing machines

We had a site shed burnt down 35yrs ago caused by paper that had fallen behind the refrigerator. That was R12 days

Among other things,it destroyed all our commissioning figures for the job, which was months of work.

    It won't burn

The gas to oxygen ratio would be too lean to burn if the whole lot escaped into the cabin at once, and you still need an ignition source.

It was demonstrated to us at the dealership I worked at in Port Lincoln years ago.

It is less damaging to the planet that R134A.

    Cheers

    Mike

R290 and R600 are hydrocarbons. (Iso butane and propane? But I'm alcohol addled and it's nearly 3:00am on new years day......)

My job (in part) is a supplier to the HVAC trades.
So if a non trade licensed person came into my work asking for a restricted product, I'd politely tell them to produce their RHL or nick off. Because my job, and the incredibly high fines my employer could be exposed to is not worth the risk. People bypassing the correct refrigerant supply channels will often find their products impounded at customs. So this creates a further element of risk for the uninitiated.

My point of view- support your local fridgy, get it done properly. If you can't afford the gas and service price, then there is also the redneck aircon that most of us defender drivers have
Ya cant buy the stuff unless licenced, yet back yard wreckers dismantle a vehicle and release all this dangerous gas back into the atmosphere. ( nah of course they all take their wrecks to a licenced air con place to remove the gas )

I bought a bottle of HyChill -30 about 5 years ago when I bought a rooftop aircon for the Disco. Did it all myself ,works like a beauty.
I had the charging manifold from when I built a freezer in my yacht about 30 years ago and had a bottle of R12 then. Used to fill it till no more bubbles in the sight glass.
With the HyChill I got a bit more technical and bought a set of scales.

I got them arse about, R290 is refrigeration grade propane, and R600a is iso-butane.
