Absolutely blown away with all this information and effort that has been put into sharing it. !!
Here is a pic.
I don't overtake, we can convoy.
Look forward to meeting and sharing experiences/knowledge...
New radiator, hoses, full flush, oil pump bolt, head gasket, smaller fridge/freezer,
Enjoy both prep and trip as the adventure is the doing...
Light bar recommendations??
overall verdict on metal dowels??
I'll spend an enormous amount of time weighing all advice, comparing that to car inspections/ performance ( including a few small practice runs this year) and look forward to completing a detailed write up from the outcome.
Weighed a few times and its always around 2700kgs
Once when broken down, RAC sent a vehicle which was rated for carrying vehicles up to 2500kgs, but were unable to recover as it bottomed out their suspension, so a larger recovery vehicle was needed.
I have also checked out a friends Disco 2, and that also weighs 2700 kgs
The original plastic ones allowed the cylinder head to 'walk' around quite a bit, resulting in head gasket failure. Your car is in the right 'mileage' bracket for this to happen. Mine went at around 240, and I've been told I was lucky to get that far.
The list that you have been given seems long and expensive, I know, but you would get a similar one for any car of similar age and Ks travelled, with a few LR additions. Do good prep and your Disco will be a great vehicle for your trip.
I repeat what I and others have said about Mario. Make yourself known to him, source your parts from him, as they are good quality and competitively priced to AULRO members.
Oh, make sure you can get the wheels off! They have a tendency to stick.
When purchasing from Roverlord Offroad Spares, do so by PM on this site.
Thanks John, I'll bear that in mind when the Disco has a dummy spit in Derby. [biggrin]
Been awhile since I had a TD5 D2, but if memory serves, get those brittle plastic water pipes than run btwn the grille and the top of the rad replaced or at least get some soft rubber 6mm(?) pipe as joiners if they do break.
