    Roof top tent

So I’m looking at getting a kings roof top and I have 210mm rhino racks with 20mm spacers. Has anyone mounted one and what’s clearance like to bolt down or have you found a easy way to secure as I will only have it on when camping!! Cheers pat

Check the owners manual but I am pretty sure it states that the D2 gutters are only good for around 60kgs.

I think you maybe thinking of the roof rails!.....either way the gutters (with a decent set of rails) can handle a lot more than 50KG! - I currently running 2x rhino rack bars with a roof top tent, foxwing awning, hi-lift jack & shovel + 100w solar panels mounted to the standard roof rails!

From memory it's 50kg and 30kg off road and that is for the gutter mounts (strongest v roof mounts) and includes the cross rails , legs and baskets etc... I know they can handle more weight however if you put it on its lid and your insurer finds out the weight is say 100kg my bet is they would deny the claim. That and even with the best suspension heavy roof loads say 80kg and above definitely adversely affect handling.

    Cheers

Also don't rely on Rhino. They quote their own view of the world which is not shared by LR. The original D2 accessory catalogue showed a heavy duty rack and the fine print footnoted the same max load as the handbook...ie keep to cross bars or cross bars and a very small basket and bulky lighter things and all good. Cheers

Handbook says 50kg onroad, 30kg offroad. Kings (Supercentre) quotes 56kg (without annex) or 63kg with.

Last big trip we did (SEQld to SA & back, via Birdsville) had about 75 kg on top of the D1. Climbed big Red OK

Was a bit top heavy until we finished loading all the rest of the stuff (took out the back seats and kept all the heavy stuff down low), but no dramas.

Something to consider ladies and gents, is the dynamic forces of 50kg (for example) is a lot different to the static weight of 2 people sleeping on the roof. I've got a Kings RTT like the one pictured, mounted to a TJM modified alloy roof rack. Works fine.
Also the weight specified is the packaged weight, including box and packaging, not that cardboard and foam weight much.
