Tablet as GPS

Pedro,
I do not know what you are after in the way of functionality in GPS software, but there are numerous free programs on Google play.
Download a few and have a play with them.
The latest three I have been trialling are Alpine Quest, E-walk Free, and My trails.
Andozic is not too bad to use.
Some of the ones I have tried in the past you need to down load the area prior for offline use, where others will have basic maps already.
For on road I use Navigator - but it can be difficult to find addresses due to it sometimes wanting to know cross roads.

There are probably better programs out there than the ones I have listed, but I am not willing to pay for one yet. I have come across some very good programs but they are a bit too technical for me - I do not have the interest in converting different file formats and overlays.

I did read somewhere,, that the commercial GPS chip in all mobile devices is the same??

anyone know different?

I bought the full copy of Sygig, and am very happy with it for turn by turn navigation.
Even on tracks (that are gazetted) it is very usable.
My main gripe is that in driving mode it is always track up, not north up, but that is only my preference and it gives a very good rendition of the terrain ahead.
It will also act as a dash cam at the same time if you want.
It will also give a Head Up Display if you lay it flat on the dash and view the image reflected in the windscreen. (Defender profiles don't suit it though)

I use OziExplorer because I use the desktop version for route planning mostly bushwalks so I'm very familiar with it. As far as city nav, Google Maps for the win.

Err, are you sure it is the model that is GPS equipped? Not all of them are you know. In fact, very few are. Best you check.

The TT is a bit big for that tablet. I have the TT and it worked fine for the Nexus, but when I switched to the Tab A 7", it wobbled around a bit. I bought an X Grip, and now it doesn't budge. As for as software, for maps I use OziExplorer, but also use AutoMate for music, etc.

Quite right!
However, if it's the 2016 7" model onwards, then yes it does have GPS. The current versions are 8", also worth checking to be sure anything you buy has GPS.

I am happy that whatever software will be easy, [bighmmm],,

the right mount will be harder,,,
