I use OruxMaps & The Open Street Maps from here: Australia, New Zealand, Oceania Cycle and Hiking maps download for Android
I have a bunch of other maps as well but I can't remember where I got them, but for a free option or to muck around these are pretty good.

You can zoom right in as well.

That ram mount works well,on a hot day don’t leave your gps in it as it sometimes falls off the windscreen if you leave the car.
I really dont want to drill the dash,, so I'm stuck with suction,, [bigwhistle]
I'm going to run twin cups and use the dash to support the tablet so that may help,, (the falling off bit)
As I only use Navionics it is all I can recommend......very user friendly and it lives with you forever, not your tablet or phone.
I use the Aus/NZ marine version because of my marine rescue work, but it still shows everything inland as well.
It is incredibly clear and accurate , gives all info a gps gives , ie, speed , distances between any waypoint , averages , projections.
I'm a bit of a numpty on anything IT but I can use this app quite well.
cheers Den
You don't even need the twin cups!
Single cup here, no problemo.
Just keep the windscreen clean.. you won't have a problem, as long as you're a regular cleaner of your windscreen.(I'm not! :D)
Mine falls every now and then, but that's due to my laziness in cleaning the inside of the windscreen on a regular basis.
I'd estimate maybe once in a month .. maybe two. Hasn't fallen for a very long time that I can remember.
My Phone holder does more regualrly, but I'm sure it's coz I have it on the right of the instrument pod(D1) and the screen has more curve on that edge than in the centre.
Again! .. cleaniliness!! clean screen, use a fair bit of pressure on the suction cup as you lock it in .. I really can't see that you'll have an issue.
Then I stated using a small bit of foam under the tablet cradle to rest on the dash top is that on a bumpy road/track, you get more stable and accurate control over the touch screen when you want to do something.
I reckon having it rest on the dash top may be the reason it hasn't dropped for a while .. dunno really.
In terms of actual cradle for the tablet, I found that this type .. RAM tablet cradle .. is the best. Most sturdy, and easiest to mount remove the tablet.
I've had those multi-finger tablet mounts, and didn't like them. Some were fairly reliable, but nothing like the type in the link.
Also for D2 the best (RAM)arm length is the long type. Fits perfectly with the suction cup mounted low on the screen and the entire setup is below the front bonnet line, so no obstruction to forward view. [thumbsupbig]
Pedro this is where my iPad sits (Cape York trip).
Cheers

I have used a suction mount for my 10" tablet that I bought from Jaycar which I have been satisfied with. Only on some very extreme rough stuff it has fallen off.
I have made my own seat rail mount from some round tube and aluminium channel. - currently out of the vehicle due to having to modify it a bit more. Sorry no photo
