    Sump gasket

Hi all just a quick question how hard is it to change the sump gasket and do I need to silicon seal any part of the gasket to the sump.
Also I would like to hellicoil the drain plug but keep the original sump bolt can I do that and if so what size coil do I need thanks.

Gasket is a bit of a bastard. You need to use sealant at the front corners. I suggest getting a copy of rave.

I used small cable ties every second hole when I did mine. Start the bolts and then snip the ties and put bolts in those holes. Keeps it from squirming out. Some people use a dab of rtv sealant on the gasket to hold it in place. I find the cable ties work better. YMMV.

No idea about the sump helicoil stuff sorry.

    Sump gasket

Use a bead of RTV sealant on the rear main seal joint and the front timing cover joint

Do a search on the forum there plenty of info on this and make sure you get a quality gasket as some have had a thicker section (metal disc anti compression sections) that's caused leaks from the rear.

And there's a tech bulletin about tightening the rear four bolts to 28nm instead of the 25nm help stop leaks

+1 for the cable ties to hold the sump on.

Oh and use a cardboard templet (trace the gasket before fitting) for the bolts as you remove them so they go back it the same location as some are different lengthens.

    Cheers Lemo
