V8 or Td5?

On the V8 it is a 16mm and you can get to it by simply removing the top part of the radiator shroud

Td 5 is 15 mm head size if genuine , some cheap aftermarket are 14 mm , both lh thread
Bolt size is m10 iirc
Easy from above with fan removed

I was a little confused by this thread and the belt tensioner section in RAVE, both of which indicate that the bolt holding the tensioner to the alternator mounting bracket is a left handed thread but my experience contradicts these.

I just removed the belt tensioner on a 2003 TD5 with a 14mm 12 point 3/8" drive socket fitting the recessed bi-hexagonal bolt head perfectly (the bolt holding the tensioner to the alternator mounting bracket). A 14mm 1/2" drive socket doesn't fit in the recess. I am sure that it is a genuine LR tensioner as it is identical to the genuine replacement that I have for it. I can confirm that this bolt is a normal right hand thread but the bolt holding the actual pulley to the tensioner arm is a left hand thread with a 15mm conventional hexagonal head. This matches what I found in other forums:

I haven't read the RAVE manual but I can't see where on this thread there is an indication anyone referred to the bolt holding the tensioner to the Alt mounting bracket, but yes, that bolt is 14mm double hex, right hand thread

Most, as well as the O.P. I'd imagine, would have been wanting to know the socket size for the tensioner pulley for removal / replacement of the belt.

I could be wrong and if it confuses others I will edit my post.

I hope all went well with the Oil cooler matrix kit.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to imply any error. I was looking to clarify whether left or right handed thread for the tensioner fixing bolt and came across this thread. Remarkably, I found few others. When I first read it I wasn’t sure which bolt was being discussed but on re-reading, it is probably me who has created the confusion.

As for the oil cooler, all good with the kit thanks but I have been laid up with a knee operation for the past few weeks so haven’t been able to finish yet, will keep you posted. Yesterday was my first foray at trying the small job of removing the tensioner.
