Thread: Interior plastic trim repair ??

Its not crazy hard to convert the current facia to a double din one. I did it to mine in one day. Just a hacksaw blade,Araldite, some bog like substance and paint.
I did find a second hand one to do it to though. Just in case I buggered up the job.... If you need to remove yours to repair it may as well cut it up a little too...

Any photos? What brand did you eventually fit? Any connection issues with the loom?

Looked at the D1 and D2 facia; reasoned if I wanted to keep the aircon controls where they were then the best bet would be to slice a little off the top of the facia frame, just above where the old single DIN radio currently sits. Print out a bit of replacement surround trim and glue in place. But would really need to check inside dash cavity for obstructions before any cutting. Not that this has made it onto my project list...well, maybe the very bottom of it!

You can see where I cut and filled the areas before painting. I didn't spend too much time making it look crazy smooth. It's not so bad anyone has ever noticed it. There is tons of room back there so don't be concerned with that. You do loose your cup holder though. Which are useless anyway..
Wiring was easy. The disco uses the standard iso connectors. I am feeling the high level outputs from the current headunit to the stock amp. I did this as I assumed the stock headunit was doing the same. Volume and sound quality is good. My head unit is some cheapo android unit from eBay. If could be fit back further in but I liked the look of it sticking out a bit. There are a couple of instructions online in how to mod the facia. I used one just to make sure I cut somewhere that would work.

How come you lose the cup holder? Did you have to lower the a/c controls?

Yep. To fit a double din in the space of what is originally the size of 1.5 din it has to drop down a bit.Plenty of space to do so behind the panel. But the drink holders are definitely in the way.

I have a copy of a quite professional D2 double DIN conversion (lots of pictures) that came from this site in 2013 and that I can email to anyone interested. I've given up trying to post it to projects. It is about 2MB (2,000 K.
