I just recalled a conversation of a couple of years ago with Blknight (Dave) where he intimated that although he hadn't tested it, it might be possible to further strengthen at least the 24 box by fitting the 26 front end (ex D3?) and I assume get stronger front bearings? This cogitation was unfortunately just after the 24 box in the LSE had only just been completely rebuilt, or else I would have followed it up then.

Anyone investigated or tried this possibility, or have any comments?

I suspect at 260K in the D2, I'm in the bonus part of the life of my 22 box and I'm thinking ahead/trying to budget/looking at transmission options over and above an Ashcroft centre diff to complement my pair of trutracs.

    Cheers all. Gavin

I doubt that would be a viable option as the front ends are completely different, although anything is possible with enough time and money
My question is why ?, when the 24 is as strong a box as you're ever likely to need behind a td5
Your 22 is still behaving itself after 260 000 k even pulling the brick, and I suspect its got a few Kay's to go yet !,why , because you look after it wrt oil changes ,cooling, and driving it sympathetically.
I think there is a company doing a standalone controller for the 6r80, just in case you want to go for the ultimate upgrade

as the 24's only came out in RR's Gav,, will you need some form of box controller?
How did you make Bessie change?

No real idea. All work was done by the PO, one of our members, and the 24 box actually came ex a Hong Kong 3L Jag!!

Cheers mate. That's just what I needed - a definitive, knowledgeable response to a throw away line by others, and I can now put the question to bed.
Replacement when due/required will be either 24 internals, or even better a full 24 box, plus if I've won Lotto, an Ashcroft centre diff to complement the trutracs. Travel well, and Kevin F says good-day. Hopefully by now David has managed to catch up with you re vibration.
