D2a Dash Query - spring loaded door lock/unlock near digital clock

Anyone had the spring for the door lock/unlock mechanism next to the digital clock on the D2a dash give up the ghost?
The backlight clock globe has also blown, but no idea if related.

I doubt that you can change the spring there cos it's not actually a "mechanism" but a momentary rocker switch which is kinda close-packed unit, google out YUF000220PUY... not related with the clock's bulb, not the best video but you might get the point YouTube

    globe is a T5W(wedge) globe.
Pull the unit out, two easy plugs to remove.
I don't remember the unit being too hard to remove(unlike the D1, which is nigh on impossible too!).
Once you get the clock/switch unit out of the dash, pull the two plugs and the light unit plug for the clock it all makes sense.
clock globe is removed with a quarter turn anti clockwise. bulb just pulls out.
I'd replace the bulb with an LED(not only would I... but I have done! ).
Most LEDs are cheap tho and have a polarity. So if you do choose an LED(and they're so much brighter!) when you first install it, you may have it the wrong way around.
So you'd pup it into the globe holder, don't yet pop it back into the clock, but turn park lights on, if the LED doesn't come on, then it's the wrong way around. Pull LED flip it's orientations(polarity) and try the park lights again.

I have a spare complete unit sitting here, but the clock is busted(replaced brother's). The central locking switch works tho.

The springing mechanism is internal to the main body of the unit, not the rocking face of the unit.
That is, the bit you push doesn't actually do the rocking/springing. The part that you push to activate the switch is just a fascia, comes off easily and inside that is the actual rocker part(and the LED globe).

To get into the actual spring/rocker mechanism, you have to pull the body(rear section) apart, which will almost certainly have the entire contents of the insides fly to all corners of the globe .... once they see the light of day.

Note that it the globe in the switch fails .. it's time for a new switch. globe is not easily replaceable in the switch

Hi Gavin, I have one you can have and I'll be in Nedlands Monday and Tuesday if you would like to pick it up. Send me a PM if you need it.

The spring is located on a lug thats part of the whole draw assy and the lug breaks and then the spring is floppy. Only fix is another draw..I tried to fix but because its under tension it didn't last.
As the others have said once the clock is out easy to replace globe.
I dont have any spare draws left otherwise you could have one..mabey Dazza?

Cheers - for the record, I managed to repair the rocker door switch quite easily (to my surprise). One of my contact arms had slipped sideways and I took the face off first, which released the tension on the springs, then I put the guts back together first and replaced the face last.

Thanks Darren, and I know I did ask, but too late. Got one from a fellow aulroian from Augusta, and then even (1) repaired mine, and (2) managed to fit a new backlight for the clock. BUT, I won't be trying to do any of your magic - that's in a class of it's own.

Any date yet for oil leaks and fitting turbo cartridge?

If soon, I'll even give the underneath another clean to try and help you identify the real leak locations.

    Cheers Gavin
