Just had a call from a customer that his steering box small metal pipe was a hole from a wear mark and it is gushing PAS fluid. This is the second incident of this failure I have heard of in the last couple of mouths. L/R don't list a part for this pipe, and wreckers only sell the whole box and wont part the pipe on it's own.
So since the D2 sare getting long in the tooth it would be advisable to check yours to prevent this happening to your vehicle.
Cheers, Mario
I haven't looked at mine and it might be obvious when I do, but where is the area? Cheers
IIRC, you have a V8?
It's hard to see the pipe, if it's the one I think Mario refers too.
Small pipe that does a loop around the box.
pipe goes from the rear of the box near the steering column shaft side, sideways and then forward to the front of the box.
Hard to see from above on a V8 due to the coolant hoses and thermostat. Pipe is inwards of the chassis.
if this is the pipe that Mario is talking about, what wears/rubs to cause the problem .. and is this more of a V8 or TD5 related issue(or both)?
Arthur.
All these discos are giving me a heart attack!

At least that can be replicated pretty easily, or brazed if its a small hole.
Must be some mistake with the price here IMO: BRAND NEW LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 2 POWER STEERING BOX BYPASS PIPE TD5 & V8 | eBay
