Replacing rear pads and discs. Any traps for the unwary?

The 19mm bolts only need removing if replacing the discs, a pad change only needs the two 12mm slide pin bolts undone.

And as Slunnie said (and I thought we'd covered this earlier?) the 19mm bolts are just a double hex so any 12 point socket fits.
They are just bloody tight at 129lb/ft.

Yep, it's a bog standard socket, nothing foible about it.

93 and counting. [biggrin] The beauty of this forum is that I now have a very good idea of what to expect. Thanks for the bog standard 12 point. The bolt, too me looks more of a star shape.

94 & off topic but the most interesting bolt I have come across in the D2 is the 8mm 12 point in the rocker covers. Needs to be 1/4" drive as well. A pain to access as well. Up there with the ignition coils. Admittedly not as far but up there.

I’m not the most confident mechanic but even I found changing pads just about the easiest thing I’ve done on my truck.
So much so that after doing the front pads and finding the pins pretty much unlubricated on Saturday, Sunday morning I was out pulling the rears apart to clean and lube them. Took no time at all and now no brake squeak.

Theres even a video, so take the iPad out to the shed to follow step by step if needed

This is for the fronts but exact same principles apply

OK against my better nature , I was thinking how you could do anything wrong doing rear brakes.
It is almost impossible to fit the caliper cradle incorrectly and also the caliper into the cradle.
Then I thought of it!!!
Don't put the pads in back to front!

I once saw some time ago the result of wait for it a specialist workshop who fitted the pads back to front.

Captive 9/16 on the prop shaft flanges do it for me.
