How is the roof panel attached to the vehicle structure?

I need to replace my roof and so far, I have different opinions, namely...
    1. It's welded to the frame and the pillars need to be cut and welded
    2. It's stuck on with an adhesive and screwed for added strength

    3. It's stuck on with adhesive

Can anyone clarify for me, please?

Disco 2 I believe is wielded on, they are known to crack at the top of the B pillars.
Defenders are bolt on with foam/rubber as joint “seal”.

so, naturally, I glance at the weld next time past--

sure enough, fine rust line through the weld....

I ran around the gutters with Sikaflex, and also around the bases of the roof rack supports.

Must have got lucky (for now?). Especially given weights on roof up North etc!

Defender roofs are held on with hope. Cheers
