Window Regulators - a question if I may?

    Hi all,
Having recently purchased a 'nearly roadworthy' D2, I am slowly ironing out the niggles.
None of the windows work properly, so I started with the drivers side.
Sure enough, the rear nylon wheel was broken, so I replaced both with Bunnings screen door rollers (separate thread somewhere on how to do this).
It seems like the window is still binding somewhere as it is stiff in places along the tracks, or it could be the regulator is knackered as the regulator now skips teeth at various points up and down the movement.

My question is whether there is an alignment procedure other than making sure everything is smooth.
I don't want to replace 4 regulators if I just need to align them after replacing the nylons.

    Cheers
    Ralph

No alignment required (aka not a P38 Range Rover (thank the engine gods for that))
Its likely all 4 are knackered, you should be good at it by the time you have done them all.
Just make sure you can hear the motor trying to work, sometimes the failure is actually the motor and not just the regulator.

    Thanks Daz,
I thought as much as the motors (at least the dvr side) seems to be working ok. Drives up and down but the window reaches two particular spots and the regulator just goes click click click....jumping teeth I suspect.
If I help the window past these spots all is ok so just wondering.
    Cheers

    1. the arm side has a busted tooth, fixable with a dab of weld and filing.
    2. the drive brace is bucking under load, check the slides and the guides for tight spots but eventually it means the support will fracture.
    3. the drive gear is slipping on the drive mech. loctite 680 but it will eventually let go.
    4. alignment is out. (this is really hard to get wrong) its an install issue and it simply means that you have a washer in the wrong spot and there is a twist in the slide that the roller is catching on.
    5. fouling on wiring or part of the door mech. you'll see it just R+R with the offending part repositioned.
    6. Guide frames twisted. When you put them back on or slid the glass in they slipped. R+R. or massage them straight.

IIRC, D1 front (at least) window regs are the same as D2.

    Alrighty then!
    Problem sorted.
RHF - guide roller and (as a result) motor knackered. Replaced entire assembly from donor car, although donor rollers were suspect.
LHF - guide roller disintegrated. Could have repaired with roller bearing fix, but easier to swap out entire assy from donor car.
RHR - motor worn and at end of life. Swapped motor from donor car.
LHR - window door tracks full of old wasp nests, motor wiring disconnected (?). Cleaned tracks, lubed and reconnected.

    Not bad I reckon.

    Cheers.
