    Safety Certificate QLD

    Hello All,
I'm about at the point where I can think about a safety certificate for my newly acquired D2.
I have two concerns that I am a little unclear about.

First is the windscreen, I reckon I'm borderline with a chip in the rhs wiper area. It's allowed to be 16mm and outer laminate only. I reckon it'll come down to how he/she measures it!

Second and more of a short term issue is the engine mounts. They need replacing and I will when cash becomes available, but I can't find any definitive reason in the guide why they wouldn't pass as is.

    Thoughts?

    Ralph

Fix the engine mounts and replace the windscreen because the inspector will pick up these in a heartbeat and be prepared for other faults as these blokes find things you haven't even thought of.

    Yes they do!
I've worked through the guide on the QLD Tpt website and I reckon these are the only two issues. That said, many still have to be interpreted, and of course, I'm not a mechanic so I expect other finds!
    Gotta start somewhere though!

    Cheers

Maybe just take it over the pits "as is" and then fix everything that is found, That way it takes all the guesswork out of it

From what I read on here--
the engine mounts on a TD5 are HUGELY more important to the cars well being than a star in the screen...

having said that,, if the beast can sit still for ten minutes, while hot, and not leak any fluids, ( and they will look---) you've done a fine job...

    Hi,
    Yes you are correct.
The engine mounts are more about logisitics. I don't really wanna do them in my sloped driveway with my limited tool set!
I'd rather register then take to my fave LR Indy who'll do it in a flash.

I've cleaned around the lumpy bit and run it for a while, couple of smallish weeps in the usual spots. Sika will fix those!

    Cheers

I think engine mounts would pass as not a safety issue, for the windscreen you could try some of that d-i-y windscreen repair stuff. I fixed a chip in My D2's headlight with it, called "Ufixit" I think, if they still make it. Also you could ring your mechanic as he might do safety cert's or at least know the rules on them.

I have always been wryly (un)amused by the rules relating to chips and cracks in laminated windscreens. After all, is that not the purpose of laminated screens? To chip or crack and not break.

Is QT still red hot on oil leaks? Some of the LR's for sale that I have looked at must have got the Safety Certificate from the owners best mate or brother.

Ask around to find an inspector who is not pedantic about the rules and allows a little flexibility.
