Just thinking of this, immediately after the remap I’ve noticed that the trans goes into limp mode (flashing MS&D) when I use full acceleration up hill or with a load (foot flat to the floor). I’ve always thought it was an issue with the ECU but last night I read on the TD5 inside site that the trans may have issues over 160hp. I’m sure I’m not pushing 160hp but I didn’t know this.

A few have done it that way, it may even be a plug and play solution. I've run an additional in front of the radiator pack to make sure it isn't affected by mud and to give better cooling. In the end I had the auto rebuilt with the 4HP24 1st and 2nd gears and no probs with that combination.

Yep, thats correct also. I really don't know what the mechanism is for sensing this though.

I've decided to do this also, however Allisport recently moved location and almost everything is on back order. I've been waiting about a month for a TD5 auto intercooler and coolant header tank.

I really need the header tank, badly as mine is cracked a little. I want the intercooler because on hot days (34 and above) mine pushes 110 degrees up a long steep hill about 1km long. The EGT's are about 750-800.

Had to drive from Hawker to Broken Hill at 95km/h and 100 degrees C, because for every km over it was equal to 1 degree C more. It was 38 degrees outside and did have a head wind while fully load with a RRT. But it was painful.

I want to pull this temp down as much as possible, so i'm banking on it working. Otherwise I'll have to buy a TDV8 RRS and turn it into an offroad machine, against every D2 enthusiasts' grain.

So I’ve bitten the bullet and ordered a AlliSport IC from TD5 Alive. Turns out that José has only 1 in stock and he’s put my name on it. Tonight, coming up the southern Expressway here in Adelaide I backed off when EGT hit 750 and climbing steadily. That was at almost 100k in 3rd. Water temp stayed below 94.5 degrees but it’s currently only 15 degrees outside and I was running unloaded.

How much for just the header tank vs a whole new aftermarket radiator?

This header tank problem seems like a neat opportunity for an enterprising member......

It might be worth reviewing your tune. I have a D2a with 280k km on it, TurboTecnics VNT, larger intercooler, high flow 2.5" exhaust, it's pushing 33" tyres with the roof rack, bull bar, winch and everything else that weighs it down and I really really really would have to work to be able to hit 750*C EGT. It's tuned by Jose from Td5Inside, he's adjusted the tune twice for me to get it where it should be.

An intercooler is part of the solution but likely your tune is the cause of the high EGT.

That is rubbish as there is no way for the vehicle to sense the power output. It doesn't have a built in dyno or anything in it. Perhaps the issue arrises once the engine power output starts to get to this level, but it's not due to a certain amount of power - it's more likely due to one of the sensors going beyond it's reading range - e.g. too much airflow through the MAF (a good ECU tuner can compensate for this otherwise there is electronic trickery available which is an ok alternative, but not as good).

I'm running the original automatic transmission in mine at 280k km with all the performance mods, extra weight and larger tyres to turn. I've upgraded to an Ashcroft HD Torque Converter, regularly serviced it with good oil and fitted a secondary oil cooler.

I’m really not sure, I was just relating what I read on the TD5Inside website!

I bought my ECU 2nd hand from a fellow forumite who put it in with his nanocom (prior to getting my own). It only cost me about $200. All I know about it is that it’s a TRS remap. I had thought about getting a nnn ECU and trying a TD5Inside remap, just not sure if it’s $800 or so well spent (ie am I going to benefit by doing this or do I then have a car that drives exactly the same but I’m $800 poorer).

Judging by your EGT issues it would be $800.00 well spent in terms of both a better tune and a safer operating range for your engine prolonging it's life...

Not sure if I want to tell you, I asked Jose' a week before you did on Facebook in Portuguese if he had any stock of the TD5 intercooler, he never got back to me and now you have bought it!

The header tank with glass window is 183 GBP or 222 GBP with level sender too from Allisport.

Also glad to hear you're happy with your dual battery box, good news you were able to modify it to suit your SSB battery.
