You pays your money and you makes your choice.
I am replacing the thermostat when I replace the radiator, (When I get around to it) I'm not fussed at the cost of the genuine thermostat ($85 with discount) as I hope to have many thousands of kms and why replace and old thermostat? Mine seems to be buggered any way as I said. You pays your money and you makes your choice.

I should add that my idea of saving coin is doing it myself, But hey. it's fun. (When it is over )
I agree. I figure that my savings is putting it in myself

.. you obviously haven't done a waterpump yet!
That and the fuel pressure reg! ... arghhh!!!

And I'm the same. Spend on quality bits, save on fixing said bits.

I keep telling bro the same .. don't save money on the wrong bits.
In the end tho, it was good to confirm what others have said .. but at someone elses expense!

The other thing we did to his D2 was the fix the broken front exhaust mount, about a foot from the flexi pipe.
The small dick that's supposed to be welded to the pipe had snapped, and it must have taken the rubber mount with it.
All exhaust places were too busy(to do a 5 min job!).

I had some flat bar, paid $2 for a ubolt clamp.
Pulled a rubber mount from my spares D2(his was missing), cut and drilled flat bar, bolted to rubber mount and to the ubolt.
Exhaust mount bracket now won't ever break again.
    Arthur.

All these discos are giving me a heart attack!
