    EGT’s

Would anyone like to have a educated or uneducated guess at what the Egt would be with a coolant temperature of 107 on a auto towing 2 ton over a rolling hill locked in 4th.

We just done 500ks towing the van our longest and hilliest trip so far , it was a learning curve as far as the gearbox is concerned, everything is fine if you cruise at 90kph locked in 4th or 3rd but push to 100kph and temps (nanocom) are all over the place.

If towing with D2 is best done in 3rd with the occasional trip to 4th on the flat at 90kph I think the Disco will be going and replaced by a new Trailblazer the wife can get at a good price.

Btw! I removed my spotlights for this trip, it only makes 1deg. cooler difference.

What are the ambient temps you are towing in? That will have an impact on your engines coolant temps and EGTs. Regardless of EGT temps, if you are seeing 117 deg coolant temps you’re pretty close to overheating so time to slow down.

    cheers

I tow a 3T+ off road high brick with my D2a, and realistically can't travel at much more than 85 locked in 3rd without EGTs climbing into the 600's, and that obviously is on flat ground. I do have a few mods like larger tyres (31"), a stage 1 mild Jose remap for towing/economy, a pair of driving lights and a small LED bar. I leave my Evo at 105 for coolant temp alarm, but start to watch closely at anything over 95-97. Any ambient temp over about 30 has an affect, as obviously do facing breezes etc. Try putting it into 4th and EGTs climb.

My Watchdog is set to 105 and the Evo to 100 which went off 3 times but nothing from the Watchdog so I’m beginning to wonder i which temp reading to believe.
I am running 235’s with everything else standard, at 90kph in 3rd it’s doing nearly 3000rpm which is just starting to be annoying.
On the flat in Lock 4th temps are a well behaved 93 to 97 at the magic number of 90 kph with cruise control.
One thing I did find was up to 3rd gear there was no difference between sport and normal modes but in 4th it was harder to keep locked up in sport, so after a hours running i went to normal mode which would hold lockup for longer.

    Phew Much better!

I pull a 1.8t van with a bog std d2a Td5 and get similar temps. Being unmodified I don’t obsess over EGTs.

Generally cruise at 90-95 in 4th lockup. Drop back to third lockup at the start of hills.

    cheers
