Blue OAT Coolant in a Td5

It’s 7 years since my then new radiator was installed with new coolant and so the time has come around to drain, flush and renew the coolant along with many of the hoses and the thermostat. I have researched major coolant brands offerings and will likely refill the modern Blue Coolant which is advanced OAT technology but without phosphates etc. Have any other forum members done so too?.... a forum search didn’t return any hits.

The blue oat exceeds the spec od the oat from the td5 era you sbould be fine with it.but it is very intolerant of being contaminted or out of spec.

Thanks for the tip, I should be okay with it then because I have never topped up coolant with plain water. I’ve always carried a premix top up in the truckBlue OAT Coolant in a Td5
Hopefully using the blue stuff will see an end to those common powdery deposits on the pipes where the hoses clamp - I suspect that the deposits compromise the hose to pipe seal and provide a path way for the coolant to weep from.

Onebob, can you keep us informed of any benefits or issues. I'm thinking of changing my td5 over to blue, to simplify the coolants I need to have.

It wont the deposits are from the coolant evaporating off where its leaked.out.

Cleaning your spigots and hoses is the only.real.answer and once the inner.rubber liner is penetrated it.wicks out the fabric reinforcement

Qualiry silicon hoses help.solve the issue.

    Hi Blknight,

What are your thoughts on smearing a little Permatex No.3 on clean spigots before fitting new genuine hoses? Will it help prevent corrosion?

Best success i had was in cleaning up
The bits and then refinishing with 2 part epoxy and reshaping.

It still leaks out through the laminations though. It will also still corrode away from the leading edges and the inside of the fitting.

I.prefer to.let the corrode.pn the outside where it can be monitored and be thankful its an easy to.make.easy replace.part that suffers.

Funnily enough I'm pretty sure LR did this exact thing ( everything uses pink ) from the factory. A ten to one ratio of rattlers to V8's so the decision was pretty easy.
same sort of reason for lifetime gearbox fluid changes, just one step further, exclusion of fluids totally.

My 2003 L322 uses a blue coolant concentrate. Well that what the Genuine coolant is in the LandRover bottle, also used in BMWs
