I ran 265/75/16 for a while and they sucked in a manual (overgeared)
As i tow and more into touring i have gone to standard size now much happier .
The sludgebox seems to cope ok with the larger size

245/255/70/16's fit and work perfectly on a D2, I am running 245/70/16 Mickey Thomson ATZ P3's at the moment and have absolutely NO problems dragging a 1.5t boat in sand/mud and slippery gravel
The 265's are a bit too fat for a standard height D2 S Far as I am aware of.

I'm looking at the Mickey Thompson AT 38s, replacing 245/75x16 Maxxis. The Maxxis make the speedo read slow, so the tyre shop suggested going with a lower profile but wider tyre. They can also do a good price on the 265/70 as it is the most popular size for a 16" wheel.
On the MT website, comparing 245/75 and 265/70, the latter is actually 7mm large, in diameter.

245/75/16 and 265/70/16 are both good sizes for D2 with or without a lift and as you've found out they wont correct your slow reading speedo , but unless you fit a speedo corrector you'll be ok calculating roughly 5% over what the speedo reads to keep close enough to the limit ( from memory 245/70 or 255/70 are very close to accurate

    The speedo isn't a biggie, I use a GPS.

Ian I have run (before and after my lift) 265/70/16 and 245/75/16 which are both just shy of 31 inch OD. The 265 might be a few mm larger in OD But very little in it. The 245 in my opinion is the pick. Less tram tracking on poor bitumen and better offroad particularly when both are aired down in soft sand. The 265 look better if you want to fill the guards. I have a mate with a D2a with a large lift and high cut bull bar and he has always run General Grabber At2 in 265/70/16 and they do look nice.

and with the 245/75s you'll get slightly tighter turning lock to lock compared to the 265/70's too .. before they rub that it.

How close does your spare fit near the bumper?
If the 265/70 is slightly larger than the 245/75, then it may sit on the bumper, even with the spare bracket reversed.

My 265/70/16s scrapped the bumper. The 245/70/16 Duratrac interfered more but that was probably because it offered more tread than my 265 from new and thus was actually a few mm bigger overall. Every manufacturer has different OD so it's hard to compare 265/70/16 to 245/75/16 unless you have the actual specs. Funnily enough when I put on the steel bar, which Ian has, the Duratrac cleared the bar. The steel bar angles down a smidge. I have never reversed my spare wheel carrier.

    Cheers
