Yes you can , but a lot easier if you remove the injector rocker shaft
Refurbished head on my TD5 new valves, springs, seals, retainers etc and new lash adjusters and followers
Got really close to starting it up oil in and coolant in
Timing is spot on (both timing pins set with colored links on the mark)
Went to turn it over by hand and a cam follower fell out possibly due to me having drained the lash adjusters (drained in oil so no air got in) so they didn't mash up against the cam or break themselves
So my question is, is it possible to sneak the follower back in without removing the head, cam etc again?
Yes you can , but a lot easier if you remove the injector rocker shaft
was a few years ago but I used a ring / open ender between the injector rocker posts with something in the middle on top of the valve . tightening the old rocker shaft bolts down to open the valve ( piston out of the way obviously :-), this allowed me to extract and refit the follower .
The follower fell out on that one after someone had used silicone when fitting the cam cradle causing a blockage of oil to the lash adjusters
