I changed my oil a few days ago in my D2 TD5 auto 2002 after 8,500km.

On Rick 130 recommendation some time ago I now use Penrite 5W-40 diesel.

I have fitted a small strong rare earth magnet to the sump plug, by just sitting it on the end as the sump is alloy so it just stays there.
I am happy to report that there was a very very small amount of powder/swarf on the plug, so little it was hardly necessary to clean it.
This is the smallest amount of deposit I have ever seen on a magnetic sump plug, as my V8 would always have a large clump.
So to me the Penrite 5W-40 seems to be doing a great job, specially considering it is a flat tappet engine with also the rubbing of the injector lobes.

    Regards Philip A

This is where some of the lower viscosity full syn oils would fall down.
They didn't have the EP additives or HTHS numbers to cope with the load on the injector lobes.

Just a heads up if you are a Supercheap club member.
They have 10 litres of Penrite 5W-40 on special on line today at $59.99.
That is the cheapest I have ever seen it.
I also bought 2x2.5 litres of ProGear 75-90 Full Synthetic at about $50 each.
    Regards Philip A
