Carrying the torque wrench in the car I've not had a wheel nut loose in 10 years despite the off road driving etc. Might be anal but I'll play it safe.

Every time I have an opportunity to take off a wheel, I apply a dab of copper grease to the studs. It brings the torque required to get the nut correctly tight down to easy-to-manage levels. None of that nasty squealing, and never a need for extension bars, 'standing on' or rattle guns either.
Works on exhaust manifolds too.

I use a torque wrench to do the final tighten, and to loosen, and a Ozito Electric drill thing to remove the nuts quickly. Copper grease as well to help.

Possibly more to it than that, maybe even deliberate just loosening, who knows. I do know I told a young fella who had been in our yard and caravan that if he was caught in my yard again he wouldnt be walking home and I have also fronted hoons in the area and read them the riot act. Prefer to think they had just come loose but 5 nuts on 3 wheels at the same time, not sure about that either. May have disturbed someone around 2am in the driveway.

I think you've got a really good point. I flicked my lock nuts very early on. The discussion at the time was that the D2 alloys only fit the D2 (and P38), and they all came with alloys, so who would want to steel them. Also, the lock nuts were made from cheese, so the first time you used them and rounded them off, then the wheel was stuck on, with or without air in the tyre.

The tyre retailer has replaced the security adapter, that they wrecked with the impact gun. :bat:

I had to weld my security key probably 10 years ago and it has held up well since.

Eventually.
After realising I'd left the adapter in the garage.
For six months.

I think the lock-nuts are to protect the tyres rather than the rims.
