Most rattle 18v guns eg dewalt Milwaukee will easily remove and replace the nut..or rent or borrow a torque wrench..my kincrome goes to 300...close enuf with a bit of extra beef☺
Thanks all for comments, my ex-RAF engineer Uncle comes out for annual holiday next week and has gone to buy an OEM hub today. 146 pounds including new nut.
We do a project on the car each year, engine mounts, exhaust manifold, rotors all round in past, so looks like the car gave us this years job !! Only concern is how to get the nut torqued to 360 lbs/ ft, as the guy at the spares shop ( very helpful guy) said, more power than the engine itself. I said yes well most engines, but not minehad a laugh and a chat, he could supply a cheaper one, but said same as comments here, if it is a keeper, get OEM.
I guess I will see if I can try and hire a powerful torque wrench, or any other ideas I could consider ? Thanks for all the guidance, Matt.

360ft/lb is close enough to 488nm
1 kg is approximately 9.8 Newton
A breaker bar and extension pipe/lever 1 metre long and 50 kg on it will be close enough.
And.. car in gear, hand brake and with wheel chocks
One Netwon, is approx 0.1kg, about 10 Newtons for a kg.

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.

I got all excited as I thought I could get the Ryobi "One" impact wrench, power is 360NM, ($169) then remembered it is lbs/ft I need. Nothing Ryobi do is powerful enough, shame as I like the idea of getting wheels nuts on and off in a jiff.
Dewalt do one powerful enough (580 NM), but that is $388 at Bunnings, so too much, so looks like I will hire a traditional torque wrench from Coates or Kennards, Bunnings do not even stock a TW powerful enough for the job.

You don't need a giant torque wrench, just a handy formula for how to calculate the reading for a normal size one with an extension fitted.

Just thinking about future projects, and vague steering is probably the biggest reason what makes the car feel old. I tightened the nut on the steering box a while back, but was a bit nervous about tightening too much for fear of wearing the box out,
so in simple terms, what parts do you look at first, and if need replacing, are they pricey and how much labour and special tools involved ?
woupd love to have exact steering, and has always been the biggest complaint when the wife drives it. More feel and less play would be a very welcome improvement.

Thank Gents, so what are my best options ? Kennards want $84 to hire a TW for the day, and what a waste of money to tighten one nut !
My breaker bar is 1/2 inch, will that be strong enough, and Pedro, what is that in the photo. Ideally I would like to buy something I can use again, but if anyone has something that will work, I would be very appreciative if I can borrow ?
