Hey mate, thinking of doing mine as well. No real signs of them failing yet just a maintenance thing. Did you use an injector puller on yours? Cheers Brett
Hi all,
A few hundred kms ago, I replaced my injector seals and noticed a massive difference immediately (No more hesitation, or rough running, better power, amongst other things).
I cleaned the injector seats as best I could before installation of the injectors, but the old seals had obvious leakage marks on 3 cylinders between od and id.
Now I'm thinking they are leaking again, as I have dropped power and the engine is getting rough again.
I'm ok to pull them back out again to see if this is in fact the cause, but I wonder if others have had similar issues and can anyone offer advise on a permanent fix? Do I need to pull the head to get it machined ?
This is my weekend car (catch the train & walk to work), so I don't mind it being off the road for the short term, but I want a permanent fix (well a landy fix anyway)
Advise appreciated.
Jim

No, I made a "custom" tool out of an old Allen key that was in my spare tools, it was a 10 or 12 mm I think, I ground down one side of the short end of the key to fit in beside the injector under the puller lip and most injectors came out pretty ok, one was a pain, but overall ok with my custom tooling.
Did you do o rings and harness st same time Jim?
Mine were stuffed when I purchased car, replaced injector wiring harness, o rings on injectors and copper washers, I also blew out the mesh filter that lives in block behind the fuel pressure regulator, that was over 40 thousand km ago still going strong, touch wood.
Some workshops I've heard are using 300tdi injector washers they appear to pull down better.
I had the injectors seals and washers replaced a few years ago and like you, it was good for a short time and then started surging and losing power again. After much friggin around my mechanic replaced the seals and washers again but recut the injector seats in the head first. No problems since. The seats can be cut In situ.
Rick, how did your mechanic deal with the aluminum shavings from cutting the seats ?
I asked about the swarf and they assured me the tool/technic they used cleans up the shavings before they can get past. I certainly haven't had any indication that there is any problem that any debris got past.
If you want to check with them about the process it was Graeme Cooper. You can ask Ward.
Cheers
Rick
