Is a seperate thread on this a worthwhile idea?

    A question:
Do you know what's wrong with the auto?
ie. has anyone diagnosed it for 'ya?

One thing I don't trust are 'unknown mechanics .. when it comes to 'foreign' cars.
They will try to stooge you at the first opportunity.
You know .. the "here's an easy buck" mentality of some people.

So diagnosis is essential .. this will save you far more $s than trying to import something.

For me, buying overseas is always a balance between saving me a $(actually lots of dollars) and still supporting the local industry(not just LRs, any consumer oriented business .. camera gear, odds and ends parts .. etc.)

Anyhow, back to the auto issue .. have you posted any questions on it?
Do you definitely know that the trans needs rebuilding? does it drive? if not, have you(yourself or via a known trusted person) verified that flex plate is not cracked? cracked flexplate is far cheaper to replace than a rebuilt trans!
If car drives, what is it doing to need a rebuild?

    ... etc, etc ...
    Arthur.

All these discos are giving me a heart attack!

Well I have fitted an stage 2 upgraded HP24 and HD transmission and HD torque converter into my D2 td5 2 weeks ago. lOVE it

I bought a transfercase master kit and HD cross pin and High cap sump for the transfer case

Freight was £350. £2700 all up that turned into $5100 and $810 import duties and GST I get the GST back. but that is by no means a standard build and that would be heaps cheaper. I looked into a local build of a hp24 and it was $5700 plus freight and that didn’t touch the transfer case

I thought it was a good deal. When it stoves I noticed even the output shaft has been replaced. That may be part of the Hp24 upgrade.

My truck feels as tight as a new one only wish I’d ordered the high range gear in the transfer case as it’s a bit worn but it all sealed up a treat with threebond.

I have had great service. Happy to chat about it if you message me your number. Cheers Matt

I also went through extensive diagnostic befor this process to make sure the tranny was dead. Turned out the flex plate cracked disengaged the pump and chewed out the pump..... tranny dead = new Ashcroft

Should I have spent 6k on a truck worth $10 if I’m lucky... don’t ask that one.

Yes you have it has now been over 3 years ago but probably only a handful of people who would ever give it a go, if anyone is going to buy a second hand auto get the one out of the petrol vehicle as the diesel chatter actually wears grooves into the clutch pack housings which can cause some clutch pack issues.
disco seriesII mods so far:-bullbar,hyd winch,
detriot locker, lsd front,C.D.L kit, chipped and bigger intercooler,2" lift, rock sliders, lsd in transfer case, modified auto trans.
