    TD5 ENGINE FAILURE AVOIDED

Hi All , decided to remove the sump (small leak) on my 2003 Discovery TD5 & check the infamous oil pump bolt & I thought I would throw in some Big End bearings as she has done 298,000 km. as I'm off to do the Hay River Track in two weeks - Eyre creek crossing hopefully open. Oil pump bolt was tight - but no Locktite on thread , engine big end bearings not bad, I had them so they were replaced. But to my horror ( see attached pic. ) the inverted hex plug that retains the oil pressure relief valve & spring had come loose & was at least two full threads hanging out of the oil pump body & finger loose. & had no Locktite on it's thread , cleaned & refitted with Locktite & retorque to specs. So if you have your sump off on a TD5 , check this Plug for tightness.
