Why wouldn't you just lock the centre diff when you go offroad to prepare for traction loss, rather than wait for it to happen and risk killing your cdl?

I've done it years ago when working.
Going from hardpack dirt to across the paddocks when on the farm, I've forgotten.

These days the D2 doesn't possess a CDL.

I do. it's habit!
I lock it as soon as I hit dirt. It aids traction on a fast dirt road and is ready to go when the going gets tougher.

Always do, however onroad and offroad on low traction surfaces with an LS or high powered anything you dont particularly want to be reaching for the lever all the time. Ashcroft ATB centre solves it. And makes for a safer drive in many scenerios

And I disagree re dirt, as I've stated on here too many times to count.

Anyway, the centre diff is the only real weak spot of the LT230.
The ATB is a hell of an improvenent.

This is why Ashcrofts STRONGLY advise that the CDL is engaged BEFORE there is a risk of wheelspin[bigwhistle]
I have taken my D2a thousands of K's on loose gravel and sand and most of the time I am towing a boat and I ALWAYS engage the CDL as soon as I leave the bitumen = a perfectly healthy CDL[thumbsupbig][biggrin]

Yes, but blackrangies wheelspin can occur on bitumen too due to his LS motor, which probably makes 3 times the power of a d2 rover v8[emoji6]
