OTOH, it seems that some of us just spin the wheels recklessly and break other bits instead.
I'm guilty of that myself .. back in the day.
I broke two CD's in my (then LT95) RRC, second time modded to LT77 and LT230.
In fact I think my dad broke it the first time, as he'd used it to get some chooks from a farm, and brought the RRC back with a totally bent up track rod(he'd obviously hit something), so I'm guessing he's gone over some rough terrain somewhere.
Wasn't long after that that it finally locked itself up(cross pins smashed to tiny bits).
Still drove tho .. got to mechanic(100km) on it's own power.
Had no idea about the Ashcroft warning re using CDL even on dirt. Back in the early-mid 90's tho .. no interballs, and was only a place geeksville endeavour .. so finding relevant info wasn't so easy.
Anyhow, deed once done .. now I just lock it up if I'm going to be dong many miles on dirt.
Must be doing something hard ball to break the TC.we ran 37s on a V8 D1 with a D2 TC admittedly a gutless engine but we flogged it hard.. it went places even mad men won't go and never had a TC issue. Diffs n axles and cvs. Well that was a problem until pegged Ashcroft centres, JackMac axles n Nissan Cvs fixed those weak points.
Boys run all Patrols now tho😎 ..a lot cheaper in the long run
Yep I have never had a TC issue except when I filled one with water at 330,000klm...drove it for another 10k...didn't like that too much. $400 for a second hand one with 40,000 on the clock. Got to love cheap parts.
The LR transfer case is used in comp vehicles. Really, toughest part of the vehicle. For all of Cape York dirt roads I locked the centre. I prefer the slight oversteer handling.
