I have the bottom connection going to the bottom of the radiator, the top angled connection to the water pump, and top connection to the radiator top/inlet manifold.

When I was trouble shooting my D2 V8 some time back(before I blew it up! .. whoops) .. I finally had it not overheating, and on a 30min run around the suburbs it cycled between 88-93, with the 78°C thermostat.

I think I noticed that the fan began it's lockup/roaring phase at about the 90° mark.
Mine has AC but not working.

My V8 never got above 85 this winter. Mostly sat at 82 when warmed up. Inline top hose conversion. Very stable. I would never go back to the LR factory spec for thermostat temps where, like Mario, mine used to run just under 100 and would get over 100 quite a bit of the time. Heat kills these motors. 80 degrees shows no difference in economy. I use Penrite mineral these days. Oil gets hot enough.

    Cheers

I fitted a 82° thermostat a few months ago and modified the grill for a better airflow on my D2a V8 and can now tow my 1.5t boat around even in 40°C+ temps without going over 100° engine temp.
With the standard thermostat fitted I was limited to 85_90kph on hot days towing the boat and also had to run the heaters as well to keep the temps down below 100°C.
In my opinion the cooler thermostats should be fitted as standard equipment for LR sold in Australia.

Agree with your solution Ozscott. I can’t be bothered mucking around with another thermostatjust to end up with the same result. As soon as I can wangle it past the missus, I’ll be on to Murray to send me the kit. Thermostat?

Which way is the right way to put it in? The two pipes at the bottom?

I think there's some crossed communication going on re the way the hoses should be fitted.
Mario recently posted a thread where on the TD5 someone had mixed up hoses fitting around the rear(maybe .. can't remember exactly)

On the V8, from memory, they all make sense and can't be mixed up .. and won't impede flow.

Note that while there are similarities, there are major difference between the V8 and the Td5 hose setups

My old thermostat housing had a teeny weeny arrow on it with the word 'pump', as part of the mould, on the outlet that goes off at an angle.....towards the pump....Thermostat?Thermostat?

New thermostat doesn't have that luxury..must have cost to much to make with that useful information on it. Thermostat?
