Front power window repair... more info

Hey all, trying to fix my front passenger window. Have looked in the good oil and found a few threads on this subject. However, could not seem to find any info on my particular problem.

I used this utube clip to repair the scissor guides: YouTube

But now the motor seems to slip past the teeth on the arm and the window gets stuck down. winds up ok, but when I wind it all the way down it just keeps going and I can't get it back up without taking it all apart again.

Thinking i've either buggered the teeth on the arm or knocked off some sort of stop mechanism. Is that correct? any tips for a cheap fix that'll last?

grabbed this photo from one of the other threads hoping to be able to edit it and circle the troublesome part but can't. it's the part on the bottom RH corner of the pic, where the motor gear winds on the scissor teeth

    cheers

Beauty, that’s what I was thinking. Looks like it used to have something similar there in the first place

Here’s the pics of my mechanism.

Can someone please tell me what part of this stops it from going down too far?

    Thanks

This was my solution. It works but the window doesn’t roll all the way down (stays up about 20mm).

I think I might run a bead of arc weld on the top edge of the scissor so that the gear can’t run past the end.

Will do that when I have a bit more time

If you don't make time to fix it first time where will you get the time to fix it after it may be buggered inconvenient & pricey ?

    Just sayin'

Fair call. I’m at the end of the semester for uni and under the pump.

I put the bolt in a strong section of the mechanism to minimise any damage.

The weld was an afterthought. I wasn’t sure what the reason was for the gear over running the scissor teeth.

Apparently it doesn’t take much of a dent there to allow the gear to run past. I found this out after i did the above

    Cheers

For those playing at home apparently the weld would go where I have marked the red line, on the thin edge, to raise that end of the scissor mechanism.

Theoretically this will stop the motor gear from running past.

I have not done this myself so I can’t attest to how well it works.

If you have done that fix. Please leave a comment here for future players

    Cheers

    JezzaRezza,

As I understand it (having done the same job less than a year ago), when the window reaches the bottom (or the top) of its travel, resistance to further movement is electronically sensed (by the BCU?) and power is switched off.

If this is NOT happening with yours, then maybe the cause is not in the physical winding / raising / lowering mechanism, but in the electronic control of their operation.

Sierrafery on this forum might be worth asking about this - he seems to be very cluey on such matters!

    Cheers,
    Andrew
