    Battery drain when turning off

I noticed today that my starting battery is being pulled down a lot when turning off the ignition.
I have a meter on the dash that is attached to both batteries via a switch.

When switched to the starting battery as I turn off the engine the battery is pulled down from say 13.7 volts to about 12.3 or so. I noticed independently that the battery controller was dropping out which it does at 12.4 volts.

The battery recovers to 13+ volts within say 1-2 seconds .
I thought it maybe was the aircon clutch taking a bit of time to disengage, but same with aircon on eco.

My theory is that the glow plugs may turn on as the engine is shut down, as I recently changed the glow plugs as they were all Kaput. I cannot think of anything else to cause this.
Has anyone else noticed this behavior with their D2 2002 TD5 auto?

I’d start by disconnecting th duel battery isolator to eliminate it as the source.
From left field- air suspension? May be the compressor running to compensate for an air leak?

    Edit,
I’d get the battery load tested too, it may be simply not be holding charge.
    Cheers, Kyle

Maybe the alternator diodes? Read a post that this causes parasitic drain?
Do you have SLS? Maybe valve block? But wouldn’t think it’d drain that much power?
I’ve read that the ecu’s stay active for a while after shut down but again only guessing at things??
Try an amp meter on the main battery lead and pull some fuses? But don’t like your chances if it’s only a very short amount of time that it’s occurring??

Also might be the condenser fan running that shouldn’t be?

Sorry should have said no air suspension, no SLS.
Both batteries are at the same voltage after the starting battery regains power ( if it doesn't drop below the cutout at 12.4 volts) so not related to isolator . The house battery can be higher than the starting battery if the cutout has activated) I checked the pos and negs and all OK.
Hmm Its a mystery, but I still think that the only change that was made was to replace the glow plugs and the draw down must be a LOT to drop an Optima Blue top by 1volt or more. The battery is 2 years old, but I will maybe get it load checked.
I also changed the solenoid contacts , but IMHO this would be doubtful to be a cause.

    Regards PhilipA
Just had a thought. I will look at the brake controller as it cuts out quickly, and the wet weather may have affected the trailer plug.

A Good battery in a D2 will drop from 13.7v to 12.8v when the engine is shut down, It sounds like your battery is buggered.

Mine has done the same from when i first got it. Have always been meaning to stick a meter on the glow plug line and confirm it's some sort of after burn to clean things off. I do a lot of car rally's with radio's going all day and don't have a second battery, but have a solar panel on the roof. The voltmeter lets me keep an eye on things so i don't get stuck, so i notice the drop for a couple of seconds when you turn it off.
