    Christmas engine swap

I have a little job at Christmas. Engine swap V8. Has anyone got any tips to share for pulling out old engine and installing the next test rat? I have a hoist and will remove the bonnet. Air con gas to be vacuumed up? On re-aligning for clutch etc?

    Cheers

To align the clutch, ideally an input shaft from the same box, but you can buy an adjustable alignment tool off fleabay but I generally use a 1/2'' socket extension bar with enough electrical tape around the end for a snug fit in the spigot bearing, and more tape where the clutch plate sits - this has always worked for me and I never think far enough ahead to get the correct tool for the job...
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

Remove radiator, swing aircon stuff out of the way, as loanrangie says. Of course there are heaps of other misc bits to come off like wires and hoses, etc. Then remove the engine mounts and exhausts. Drop the engine down as low as possible for access to the top 4 bell housing bolts. Lowering the engine as far down as possible is the most important tip. That may damage a gearbox mount but its the only way to get easy access to these bolts. Both my engine mounts and one gearbox mount were broken anyway and needed to be replaced.

Cheap as chips. Allow an exchange rate adjustment and some air mail.
