I'd be a bit suspicious cos reading the description it seems the sellers think that a generic automotive locksmith can program a key to the D2 just like that as it's possible for OBD2 compliant vehicles without mentioning anything about the code. Eventually find a locksmith who confirms you 100% that he has the experience and the necessary tool for a D2 then go for that key... A friend of mine bought a cheap key which was adverstised the same, it even had the long bar code attached but missing the short code from interior and at the end he realised that the long bar code is wrong cos it wasnt accepted by Hawkeye.

I bought a Rover 75 / Disco 2 key fob some years from Aliexpress for around $40. There seem to be some even around $25 shipped nowadays. It got both long code attached and short code on the chip inside and I was able to pair it via Nanocom easily. The only difference is that it has a Rover 75 electronics inside. That means when your car is unlocked for long enough that the car re-immobilises (30s or 5min or something) it's not remobilised automatically while turning the key. You just have to press the unlock button to remobilise it and be able to start. As it's my third (spare) key I don't mind that inconvenience.

I got one of these recently: LAND ROVER Discovery 2 complete Remote Key Ready for programming 433mhz 718460029898 | eBay. It's a genuine Valeo key fob and I had no problem programming it with my Nanocom. Local locksmith reckons he could programme it too but he'd charge $100 for doing it!

    Hi Metoikos,
I bought one of these too but was told if it doesn't have the yellow component on the PCB like the original key then programming wont work. When I put the the orig pcb next to the new one from aussie remotes they look completely different - orig has component on both sides whereas the aussieremotes one had component only on one side. I was about to return it but now not sure.

Anyone in Melb east side who can program the fob??

The one I got definitely has components on both sides and is identical to the original. Maybe they've sent you a Freelander key or something?

how does one go about getting the key cut. Do they need an ignition code or something. Misses had to get a new key for her car and Rechenberg refused to cut the key unless they had a code.

I scored one of those for our Defender. A locksmith said he could program it if he got the details from LR at a cost of $90. We already had a non-programmed copy key which works just fine, so I didn't bother.

The key code should be delivered FOC by any main dealer based on VIN and ownership evidence
