Hi Trout,

'Old Mate' here. Thanks for your epistle. However, if you'd bothered to read my posts you would have seen, "The filter came in a green box, less than 15K km ago. Recommendations??" When I fitted it ("correctly"), I was not aware that Bearmach filters were considered inferior by some. But I do acknowledge that the new Mahle filter is a more 'snug' fit in the airbox and appears to be of better quality construction. Frankly, I resent the implication that I 'dropped the ball'.

Oh, and Tombie - No. I didn't direct a hose into my air inlet for several minutes either...

Never said you did, but it’s one of the only ways to get a significant amount of water into the filter element.

And it could, repeat could, be done by a malicious neighbour or kid.


Turn down the sensitivity meter a notch [emoji41]

Maybe you didn't "drop the ball" But by fitting the cheaper/inferior air filter Maybe you were playing with the wrong ball [bigwhistle]

I have driven my D2a for over 150,000K's through all sorts of terrain and conditions (including deep water crossings) and I have NEVER had a catastrophic fail with the air filter like you did because I change them regularly AND I always use "Quality" filters [thumbsupbig]

I dunno Mike, I had a bloody wet element and I'd only done river crossings, no hose has been near the car for a while!
And the water was only up to about the bottom sill, albeit there were 14 of those crossings....

Common issue,after wading, with a D2,but it usually disappears pretty quickly.

I will have to dig out the pic of mine crossing Palm Ck,on our first Cape trip,water was close to bonnet level, with no snorkel.[bighmmm]

The OEM air filter was a bit damp but that was it.[biggrin]
