Many of us do a "Pre Start" on our 16/20 year old Disco's AND that includes replacing the air filter at a regular interval along with servicing and regular maintenance, **** happens if you drop the ball
'Old Mate' here. Thanks for your epistle. However, if you'd bothered to read my posts you would have seen, "The filter came in a green box, less than 15K km ago. Recommendations??" When I fitted it ("correctly"), I was not aware that Bearmach filters were considered inferior by some. But I do acknowledge that the new Mahle filter is a more 'snug' fit in the airbox and appears to be of better quality construction. Frankly, I resent the implication that I 'dropped the ball'.
Oh, and Tombie - No. I didn't direct a hose into my air inlet for several minutes either...

SupporterMaybe you didn't "drop the ball" But by fitting the cheaper/inferior air filter Maybe you were playing with the wrong ball
I have driven my D2a for over 150,000K's through all sorts of terrain and conditions (including deep water crossings) and I have NEVER had a catastrophic fail with the air filter like you did because I change them regularly AND I always use "Quality" filters

And the water was only up to about the bottom sill, albeit there were 14 of those crossings....

Common issue,after wading, with a D2,but it usually disappears pretty quickly.The transmission temp light shall remain unmentioned.
I will have to dig out the pic of mine crossing Palm Ck,on our first Cape trip,water was close to bonnet level, with no snorkel.
The OEM air filter was a bit damp but that was it.
