My guess would be Lucas as I have heard comments that the TD5 injection is like petrol car injection rather than diesel.

Lucas were responsible for the ECU and so I think that's a pretty reasonable assumption.
I have been told that there were either MCU/Detroit or CAT people brought on board too as it's unit injection?
Having said that Lucas/CAV had been around diesels a long time.
At the time the big diesel engine builders were miles in front of the light/medium duty engine builders when it came to high pressure injection.

I find it interesting that they developed the injectors using kerosene, and that the engines will run on aviation fuel, I'm guessing avtur. I had suggested here on the forum to put a cup or two of kerosene in the tank as a winter anti gell additive. The howls about the delicate engine, break the injectors etc. etc. just shows how little some of the loud people here know about the TD5.
I do not claim to be an expert, I thought I had an issue because in low range I had to use a huge amount of throttle. I have learned that the throttle map is different between low and high range.

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.

One of the development criteria for it was multifuel capability for British Army requirements - they wanted to have future vehicles able to run on avtur.

I got a ride in an early Td5 disco years ago while at Blinman in the Flinders Rangers. We were making our way over some dry creek beds full of boulders, it was very difficult to crawl your way over as the engine would make the vehicle buck. The power/torque would just come on and you would be driven up the face of the rock. Driver would pull the foot off and you would get into a stutter. The vehicle was a manual so did not have the moderating effect of the torque converter of the auto.

I eventually got a disco 2a with and auto. Not a direct comparison but I have never experienced a similar event.

A number of changes in the D2, not all engine related. Lots of stuff written about the transfer case lock lever etc

That is what happens in winter. They distill the diesel more into the kerosene range to lower the gel point.
