Your car is before 2003 so the CDL was never connected with linkages as standard equipment.
Are you sure Phillip? My '95 D1 Facelift had full working CDL with indicator Lamp.
Thanks Tom.CDL seems to a bit of a pig in a poke discussion whether this one has it or that one has it. Seems it was an option on some D1s as well in that some bits were supplied while on others it wasn't.
Who can work out the LR reasoning?![]()
AFAIK all D2s prior to 2002 had a CDL but no linkages.
In 2002 LR deleted the CDL entirely.
In 2003 D2A it was bought back as an option in UK but standard in OZ.
This was because at first they thought the Traction control was sufficient but the market wanted a CDL.
D1 did not have traction control so all had CDL.
I have a 2002 so had to fit the lot both CDL and linkages .
The Body control module (BECM) in pre 2003 D2s is designed so that the CDL light only comes on in certain circumstances , like when the car is put on a dyno.
The post 2003 BECM does not care about the order of locking the CDL and is less severe as it is designed to work with the CDL.

This may be a long shot but many years ago I had the m+s lights come on intermittently and it would not drive,as It was still under warranty(used car one)I took it back to the dealer who said they re-soldered a wire that had come loose on the top of the gearbox, never had the problem again
John
Yes there is a potential problem where the wiring loom to the XYZ passes across the back top corner of the gearbox under the floor. there is a bolt there that can rub through the insulation on the loom and cause an intermittent short. This may be a long shot but many years ago I had the m+s lights come on intermittently and it would not drive,as It was still under warranty(used car one)I took it back to the dealer who said they re-soldered a wire that had come loose on the top of the gearbox, never had the problem again

To get to it you have to remove the console top by drilling out 14? rivets and you can see it right to the back of the open hole. The XYZ and tbar assembly have to be removed to do that as does the hilo lever.
Big job.

Sounds like, in typical LR style, they seemed to employ non-thinkers as Blind Freddy could have foreseen such a basic design No No.
Sierafery meet JDNSW.
You two are a match made in heaven.
