    Airconditioning service questions

Hi - I've just replaced the condenser in my D2 Td5. One aircon service mob has told me that all I need to do now is get a pressure test and regas. Another mob is telling me that if the system has been opened up I'm legally obliged to replace the filter...but on RAVE I can't see any filter in the system?

Also, has anyone had luck with repairing a pinhole leak in a condenser. Aircon mobs tell me that even soldering won't hold the pressure, but I'm wondering if aluminium welding would?

Finally, is there any truth in the new refrigerant not being as effective as the old stuff. I actually had my aircon regassed for the first time in 20 years...unfortunately just before I got the pinhole leak! Even with the regas I wasn't particularly impressed by the performance...

No you are not legally obliged to replace the drier, but it should be done.I can’t remember where it is located on the D2.It should be in the liquid line, that is pipe coming out of condenser.

Forget about fixing the condenser coil, particulary as it is aluminium.Scrap it.

As for refrigerant, the original R12 is the best by far.Any other refrigerant will not work as well, but the D2 system is a well sized system,so changing over the refrigerant to a newer type should still work pretty well I would think.

Some use Hychill, which seems to work well, but I haven’t had anything to do with it.

Thanks - got hold of reasonably priced condenser and now drier...hopefully might give some improvement in performance.
