So what is the GCM for the D2? I thought the D1 and RRC was 6220kg - did this drop for the D2?
I have just been doing some research and the d2 vary a little bit in their towing and carrying capacity but only by about 100 kg . The gross combined mass is 6250 kg so with a gross vehicle mass of 2750 kg it can tow 3500 kg braked but no payload , if the payload is at the max of 692kg this reduces the towing capacity by that amount and this varies slightly model to model
Doug
With a kerb weight of 2195kg + driver & 2x passengers (let's say they are 80kg each) that 2195+240=2435kg. Add to that 3500kg towable = 5935kg GTW (gross train weight)
That figure is based on the lowest possible kerb weight and minimal passenger weights.
It's nothing short of astounding, in my opinion, by increasing the vehicle weight by another 315kg, or less, it's towing capacity is reduced by 1.5 tonnes!!
The person that I know about[bighmmm]that has been towing the heavy van with a fully loaded Disco TD5 for the last 10 years ... has never had a towing issue, stability issue or any breakages. The vehicle averages 16 litres/100km and he recently had the transmission rebuilt at 270,000km .... not that it even needed to be done!!
The vehicle has, quite clearly, been built solid enough to handle the stresses. He[bighmmm]also drives the vehicle 'gently' .. and resists the urge to 'thrash it' even though it's been upgraded.
I can't say that about the vehicles after Land Rover sold the company.
My brother bought a new Freelander in 2007 and got 80,000km out of the transmission before it was clagged. He'd never towed ANYTHING with it!!
On inspection, he said the car was full of components stamped 'FoMoCo' (Ford Motor Company)[bigsad]
I'm not actually sure that's entirely correct,
when you say "Rave" do you mean Rave or the actual owner's manual supplied with the vehicle for the destination country?
We only have airbag D2s so our figures are already higher, but the following two pics need to be read carefully, especially if you have an airbag equipped one, as if your stay under 100 kmh things are different, in fact I think 100 kmh is the limit when towing in most states anyway. So do the math....it might still come out at what you said, but I can't be bothered adding it up!
Cheers

Just to add to that, there typically hasn't been many vehicles that can tow 3500 at gvm, defender , 70 series (although they can only do that when using a Toyota WDH which bizarrely enough doesn't actually exist) so they're disqualified.
I'm not sure what the other contenders are, g professional certainly isn't, not sure about 200 series or y62, then after that your into the American stuff...
My knowledge on this is not up to date to right now, so things may have changed !
