A couple of unusual engine and/or transmission queries

I have a 95 RRC LSE, which for the purpose of this exercise is a D2, having a 1999 TD5 and 4HP24 transmission albeit with heavier flex plate (5mm) & Jag 4.0 litre torque converter.

Ever since I acquired the beast in 2013, it has had a "miss" just after starting to move off.

From the outset I must point out that Dazza TD5 is in no way related to/responsible for any of the following "events".

Although I thought the miss was transmission related, initially the thought by others more experienced suggested it could be an injector problem, possibly from pot 4 arising from the remap via an updated programmable Bruce Davis EMS Chip (~420 Nm). I tried to contact the programmer, but never received any reply.

From the beginning of 2016 until now, I have only had the pleasure of its company for less than 12 months in total while others played with bits and pieces, and I've now just got it back from a 2 year "checking out EAS/electrics and the sparkie getting Bells Palsy poor bloke" sojourn.

In Jan 2018, she dropped a valve spring and had the head extensively overhauled (but I was assured the pistons etc were fine).
A new "click" appeared under acceleration which was much later suggested to be a slightly bent conrod?

We may now have gone full circle, with the latest LR mechanic suggesting it is a torque converter problem - bit of a surprise give the auto had a full rebuild in Balcatta 2K km/Dec 2015 ago, but he just might be on to something.

It will now be yet another puzzle for consideration by the long suffering/thought I'd never have to see those wheels again DazzaTD5.

And on top of all this, the plan (funds permitting) is for Dazza to exchange the BW VC for a LT230, convert to coils and add a few tickle bits left over from the recent sale of my D2a.

Interestingly in 2016 I had fitted an emergency air system for the EAS with schrader valves under the bonnet, and which holds air quite well, so the coils may have just dropped down the priority list.

So - any more bright ideas or reinforcement of comments above from this convoluted session?

    Hi Gavin
I have no doubt Dazza should be able to diagnose but, depending on the type of noise, I would be trying a standard ecu first as some of the tuned ECU's can cause diesel knock and miss when cold.
While a slightly bent conrod wouldn't give a noise on acceleration if the event that caused the bend was severe enough, it could have done damage to either of the conrod bearings .
I'm up in Broome now but should be coming through Perth around Friday week. If you have it at home I will drop in and have a listen.
Will let you know when I'm getting close to cold country

Thanks Craig, if that's around the 28th YES, YES, YES, but if the following week - bummer. We leave for the north on Thu 4 Sep, so with my luck will miss you. If you are only a day away then, I'll wait for you.

    FYI?
Bessie (Queen Elizabeth for the turning circle) had the old style ECU in the 1999 motor so unsure if was chipped - which I think is the case- or fitted with an updated one, and the noise appears irrespective of whether motor is cold or its a warm restart.

If there is even a remote chance of motor problems, Dazza will still be doing an engine rebuild using my spare short motor (refurbed 1999). Looks like I'll still have a tested all clear spare head with cams etc but not all injectors at the end of the day.
